Tour de Force 09/11 Memorial Bike Ride: Manhattan, New York City

TDF 2009: Boston to Ground Zero

In 2009 the Tour de Force will have a New England feel. The tour will kick off in Boston on 9/11 and takes us through Massachusettes, Connecticut & Long Island and will conclude on 9/14 at Ground Zero in NYC.

The following excerpt was taken from the Tour de Force website:

History of The Tour de Force

“The “Tour de Force” was started in 2002 after Det. Robert De Paolis of the NYPD (since retired) decided to ride his bike to honor the fallen police officers that gave their lives in the September 11, 2001 attacks. He was then joined by 8 other members of the NYPD and one member of the Bronx District Attorney’s Office and along with four volunteer support personnel, they cycled their way from the Pentagon in Arlington, VA, through Washington, DC, Maryland, Deleware and New Jersey and finally to Ground Zero, NYC. In 2003, the Tour de Force was incorperated in the state of New York as a non profit charity and later gained 501(c)3 status from the IRS.

The TDF has now evolved into an annual four day event in which we continue to remember our brothers and sisters that died that fateful day. In their honor, we have made it our mission to raise funds for families of police officers nationwide that are killed in the line of duty. The TDF also holds several one day benefit events, each year.”

Taking part in this years event was no other then long time chiropractic patient Hernan Lucero.  The grueling ride was a whopping 260 miles from Boston to New York City’s ground zero and was a tribute to the lives lost on September 11, 2001.

While inspirational no doubt the ride can take it’s toll on the body and the accumulated stress that builds up can be painful for some.  When finished the 260 mile ride leaves bikers at Ground Zero in downtown Manhattan.  But New York City resident and rider Hernan Lucero didn’t stop there – he kept on riding right into his Chiropractors office; Dr. Noam Sadovnik at Midtown Total Health.

“Dr. Sadovnik has been a tremendous aspect of my training regimen both in preperation and recovery from the event.”  Said Hernan.  It’s no wonder Hernan decide to ride right into Dr. Sadovnik’s office after finishing the race for his own ‘tune up.’

Dr. Sadovnik compliments his Chiropratic care with advanced forms of clinical rehabiliation and corrective exercise not usually found in other Chiropractic offices.  Here you can see Hernan performing some ATM2’s also known as ‘Active Therapeutic Movements’ to help restore core stability and balance to his pelvic floor.

“After addressing someone’s biomechanical issues resequencing and reconditiong the core muscle’s that support the spine and it’s funciton is imperative to optimizing performance and restoring function.” Says Dr. Sadovnik of Midtown Total Health.

Relief for Hip Pain NYC & Arthritis Pain NYC

Manhattan, NYC: Relief for hip pain, arthritis pain and other forms of joint pain is now within reach.

If you’re suffering with hip pain or arthritis pain in NYC you’ve probably been managing the pain conventionally with little to no success.  In most cases this type of pain is progressive and pain meds only help to some degree – or it becomes a life long sentence of dependancy on these meds for relief.  Not only that, but with all the potential side effects and interactions you may be looking for alternative therapies that are non-surgical and non-invasive.

With osteoarthritis, arthritis pain and hip pain it is usually a matter of repetitive stress which arises as a result of poor biomechanics, structural stress and a loss of efficient movement across the joint.  When biomechanics change muscles begin to function less efficiently.  There is a transition from what’s known as a ‘high efficiency, low energy movement’ to a ‘low efficiency, high energy movement’ which increase the amount of friction across the joint surface.

If we consider arthritis pain in the knee or hip (pain) – or any joint for that matter – the body is designed to move in such a manner that minimizes the amount of stress across that joint.  The condition of the soft tissues, hydration and alignment all play an integral role in maintaining these normal movement patterns.  When there is any deviation from this ‘normal’ we see an increase in friction forces within the joint.  Friction is an inherent characteristic of motion.  Basic physics explains this.  To understand this concept better think of an icy road during winter.  If you hit the gas the wheels will simply begin to spin in place rapidly accelerating but not creating much motion.  This is because of lack of frictional forces to propel the car forward.

The same concept applies to our bodies.  There is always some amount of friciton created with normal movement but not so much so that it surpasses the body’s threshold.  Arthritis pain and hip pain, as well as other forms of joint pain, (again barring any systemic conditions such as RA) will generally result from increased friction across the joint surface and this arises due to a break down in biomechanics.  When friction increases this leads to more heat production.  The process ensues and heat will eventually lead to inflammation and inflammation = pain!

So, while taking anti-inflammatory medications will limit that last step and reduce pain, sometimes, it is a very inefficient approach to correcting the problem.  With this type of approach one can only hope to manage the pain creating a dependancy on the anti-inflammatory.  It’s always better to depend on your own bodies resources rather then an exogenous source of relief – a crutch if you will.

Locating the biomechanical source of increased friction, while also addressing the inflammation directly – through non-invasive means such as cold laser therapy and ATM2 – has lead to better outcomes in clinical practice for us.  The drugs will always be there as a last resort but if you exhaust those options prematurely you may be self limiting your options and further allowing the process to progress.

Hip pain, arthritis pain and other forms of body pain can be treated successfuly by correcting the breakdown in biomechanics, rehabilitating and reconditiong the neuromuscular system and when indicated addressing the inflammation directly and non-invasively with innovative technologies such as ATM2 and cold laser therapy.
